The Mission of the Cohasset Basketball Boosters Travel program is to promote and support competitive basketball teams, enhance and improve players’ skills, and foster a positive environment of sportsmanship and teamwork. The philosophy is simple: Teach the fundamentals of basketball, make it fun and keep it fair.
PHILOSOPHY REGARDING ROSTER SIZE AND PLAYING TIME
After review of player development policies, the Boosters have developed the following guideline regarding team roster size:
In grades where there will be at least two travel teams, a 10 player roster for the A team promotes the optimal environment for player development. This represents a change to the previous policy where A teams generally carried 12 players on their roster. While it is the Boosters’ policy to promote the game as widely as possible at all levels of travel basketball, both players and parents should be aware that this is a competitive environment and not every player will make a team.
The Cohasset Basketball Boosters Club supports and manages the boys and girls Travel Basketball program. Boys in grades 6-7-8 compete in the Patriot League,http://patriotboysleague.com/, and girls in grades 5-6-7-8 compete in the Old Colony League. 5th grade boys compete in the Abington Stars League which has all of the games at the gymnasium at the former Naval Air Base in Weymouth. In addition, in those age groups that we can field a second team, we field teams in other local leagues.
Most teams will practice 1-2 nights per week and all games are on the weekend. The games begin in mid to late November and run through mid March with playoffs and championship games.
This program is vitally important since the loss of Middle School sports in Cohasset. The CBBC will support two teams at each grade level where we have interest and commitment.
Playing Travel Basketball does not preclude any child from playing in our Youth Basketball Program. Many children opt to play in both. It is a personal decision that each family should make on their own.
